ABOUT Us
A Farmstead in the Heart of Costa Rica’s Rainforest
Located in the heart of the tropical rainforest of the Talamanca Mountain Range, bordering Barbilla National Park and the Cabécar Indigenous Territory of Nairi Awari, lies our farm: Barbilla Rainforest Farm.

We are part of the small rural community of Las Brisas de Pacuarito, on a forested farm
where we also raise cows, horses, and chickens that provide us with our own eggs.
Forty percent of the farm is dedicated to cattle ranching, where we raise Brahman and
Nelore cattle. We use traditional techniques such as silvopastoral systems, rotational
grazing, and improved livestock management to reduce the environmental impact of
ranching. Agriculture is combined with small-scale tourism, allowing visitors to explore the remaining 60% of the farm, a regenerating tropical forest.

For three generations, our family has been committed to rainforest conservation in Costa Rica through various efforts, including the establishment of nature reserves and advocacy for the creation of a national park. We've also engaged in educational initiatives, such as the development of bilingual schoolbooks for the Cabécar people, and have supported local development projects focused on infrastructure, municipal democracy, and women’s entrepreneurship. We are actively involved in local development efforts and strongly believe in uplifting and supporting our community.

Our journey into tourism began with the creation of El Camino de Costa Rica, a long-distance trail that passes through our community, Las Brisas de Pacuarito. We’ve worked hand-in-hand with our neighbors to offer services for hikers, building connections that support local entrepreneurship and promote community-based tourism. At Barbilla Rainforest Lodge, we prioritize buying from local suppliers and collaborating with others to strengthen community-driven business.
For our guests, we offer peace and immersion in nature—but what truly sets us apart is our authenticity, unique experiences, personalized service, and commitment to responsible travel. A meaningful, responsible journey contributes to the well-being of local families during your stay. In return, our neighbors will enrich your experience by sharing their customs, stories, and way of life. In this way, our farm is more than just a place to stay—it’s an invitation to explore, connect, and leave with memories that will last a lifetime.
